Well, I’ve arrived in Salt Lake City for Ministry Days and I’ve had time to visit with friends and colleagues and have a nice dinner with some of them as well.
After dinner, I went for walk around the Latter Day Saints Temple and Visitor Center area called Temple Square with a colleague.
One of the visitors centers had an enormous statue of Jesus set at the top of a spiraling ramp, the walls painted in a cosmic motif.
The entire atmosphere of the thing reminded me of the theology of the pantokrator iconography on the ceiling of Greek Orthodox churches.
I declined offers from the “missionaries” who staffed the visitors center to have videos about God’s plan for the family mailed to my home. I likewise declined a Bible and a Book of Mormon. Believe it or not, I already own a copy of both.
