Sonia Sotomayor in politics and poetry

There’s a facinating poem in the recent issue of The Nation“Sonia Sotomayor” by Calivin Trillin, Deadline Poet marries function and form in its satire of the reaction against Sotomayor’s nomination.

Trillin’s use of simple rhymes and sing song meter to characterize those in opposition to the Sotomayor selection for fear of her perhaps being an unbiased view on the bench because she’s a Latina, is put in stark relief by the closing line written in more sober prose, noting that white males are always neutral.
